Postponed

Hannover Fairs USA (HFUSA), the organizer of Domotex USA, announced that after careful and thoughtful consideration, the trade show scheduled for March 1-3, 2021, will be postponed.
The decision to postpone the 2021 edition of the show was based upon several factors, including the results of extensive market research as well as ongoing global conditions. In the months following the 2020 event, an outside research firm conducted an in-depth market study including a survey and interviews with floor covering retailers, distributors and other flooring professionals (inclusive of previous Domotex USA participants) intended to help the organization further understand the industry’s needs, with the ultimate goal of adding more value to the show experience.

“We were pleased with the research results, which indicated a continued need and desire for the Domotex brand in the U.S.,” said Donna Busse, show director of Domotex USA at HFUSA. “With this new insight, we look forward to using the remainder of 2020 and 2021 to develop a show that will incorporate strategic changes for an even better and improved experience for both exhibitors and attendees.

“We would like to thank all stakeholders, partners and interested parties for your support of Domotex USA and we look forward to welcoming you back at the next show,” Busse concluded.

The new date and location for the next Domotex USA will be shared when available.

Does not see patent infringement with Hymmen and defends its integrity

Last week Hymmen informed on the Internet that the company has filed a patent lawsuit against Barberán. Now that the Spanish have also been officially informed of the case, they are taking a stand:

“On 18 June, we were astonished to learn from the professional and social media that Hymmen had filed an infringement suit against us regarding their patents ‘EP 3 109 056’ and ‘EP 2 313 281’,” it says from Castelldefels, a town on the outskirts of Barcelona. “All customers who know Barberán know of our integrity – and that our goal has always been, and still is, to provide the market with innovation and the best possible industrial solutions. As early as 2005, Barberán began research into single-pass digital printing technology. This ultimately led to the development of our first industrial single-pass digital printer, the BIJ300, which was exhibited at Ligna 2007. Long before Hymmen showed its first machine.

However, Ligna 2007 was just the beginning for Barberán and we have never stopped investing a large part of our research and development resources in developing new and improved solutions for our customers.

Barberán firmly believes in fair competition that benefits our customers and also us as a technology manufacturer and supplier. This is why we are convinced that our company has not infringed any patents. We have placed this matter in the hands of a renowned German law firm, which will defend our integrity accordingly.”

Sharp drop in incoming orders in the first quarter

Italy was the first country in Europe to face the corona pandemic with comprehensive measures. The economic consequences can also be clearly seen in the current quarterly report of the Italian machinery association Acimall.

The first quarter of 2020 ended with a general decline in orders for machines and tools in the double-digit range – and affected the domestic market at an early stage, but with a slight delay then also many export markets.

The survey among members showed a significant overall decline in orders of 21.1 percent compared to the same period in 2019, with exports down 19.4 percent and exports within Italy down 25.3 percent. “It is obvious how the lockdown and the subsequent standstill of productive activities affected the results and triggered a demand crisis that will probably continue to affect the entire fiscal year. The intervention of national, European and global governments and authorities to support the economy and the individual industries will be crucial in the near future,” says Dario Corbetta, Acimall’s CEO.

The order backlog is unchanged at 2.6 months, with prices up 0.8 percent since the beginning of the year. In contrast to the order intake, sales remained largely stable in the first quarter with a “slight” decline of 8.8 percent. This can be explained on the one hand by the range of orders and the fact that many orders could still be delivered as planned. More worrying is the “gap” that will arise in the coming weeks and months due to a lack of orders. By then at the latest, the sales figures will also have fallen sharply.

The sentiment survey reflects precisely these concerns in the industry: 69 percent of those surveyed expect production to decline, 19 percent expect a certain stability and only 12 percent are looking forward to a continued positive trend. The employment figures are unchanged for 75 percent of the survey participants, 6 percent have hired new staff in the first quarter, and 19 percent have already cut staff. Stable inventories are reported by 44 percent, with 37 percent reporting an increase and the remaining 19 percent of respondents reporting a decline.

Many look to the future with genuine concern, reporting a strong reluctance to buy or that orders are being “put on hold”. With regard to exports, 13 percent of those surveyed believe that orders will increase, 31 percent expect no change and 56 percent of the participants believe that the worst is yet to come, economically speaking. The domestic market is seen even more pessimistically: Nobody believes in a positive development, 37 percent hope for stagnation and 63 percent are convinced that the decline will continue.

English homepage is online

The German Furniture Quality Association (DGM) has now translated its website into English to make international manufacturers, dealers and end consumers even more aware of the topic of furniture quality. “Our RAL quality mark ‘Golden M’ is known and respected far beyond the borders of Germany. It is the most important proof of quality for furniture throughout Europe,” says DGM Managing Director Jochen Winning.

In addition to the ‘Golden M’, the DGM awards other quality marks for furniture, such as the emission label, the box spring label and the climate label. The homepage now also provides information about these labels in English. Visitors to the website can also see which certifications the more than 130 German and European member companies of the DGM have been awarded. Around 100 members are furniture manufacturers, plus supporting members such as suppliers and test institutes. Since 1963, all furniture manufacturers have had to comply with the strict quality and testing regulations RAL-GZ 430 in order to become DGM members and be awarded the “Golden M”. “The DGM is a strong community with a clear goal: furniture quality! Our English-language website will enable us to promote and raise awareness of this goal even more effectively on an international level,” concludes Winning.

Starting tomorrow, the Italians will be going digital

Three days full of novelties and innovations in the processing of wood and other materials – this is what the BiesseGroup promises from tomorrow until Friday 26 June. “E-vent: Digital In Action” is the name of the digital event during which the Italians will offer training webinars and live demonstrations via an innovative digital platform. On the agenda are important innovations in technology, software and training activities, all in all the result of continuous investment in innovation, research and development and training.

According to Biesse, the first online edition of “E-vent: Digital in Action” will be an innovative encounter, focusing on training combined with live demonstrations: On the virtual stage, there will be courses on cutting, nesting, wood construction and edge processing with more detailed information on certification for antibacterially effective boards, as well as a section on “modern materials”, where, for example, the use of transparent materials is discussed.

A further focus is on “Automaction” and “Smartaction”, both concepts based on digitalisation, which have been developed in recent years to meet the requirements of large industrial customers on the one hand to secure and increase production output, and on the other to meet the needs of small and medium-sized companies.

“Biesse offers companies and players concrete tools to revive business activities by exploiting the opportunities and advantages of Industry 4.0. E-vent: Digital in Action is a comprehensive response to the need to keep our customers up to date and trained,” says Federico Broccoli, Chief Commercial and Subsidiaries Officer Machinery and Tooling. “We have embarked on a new path to continue to contribute to the success of our customers around the world and to offer everyone the best possible support and service. I really invite our customers to seize this opportunity and benefit from Biesse’s experience. “E-vent” offers seminars and training courses on topics that are relevant to a great number of woodworkers, such as new trends in the world of design, materials and fittings or tooling, which are then combined with technical and customer-specific demonstrations on our machines,” concludes Broccoli.

“We are facing a cultural change that will affect our marketing strategies and the way we use the various means of communication. We have therefore changed our strategy to better serve customers around the world,” explains Raphaël Prati, Corporate Marketing Communications Director. “That’s why we’re launching Digital Arena, a new online platform that will become a permanent archive of digital content for users around the world: a digital meeting place where you can keep up to date with the latest industry news and watch videos anytime. The platform will be our ‘digital site’, a virtual campus that in the physical world corresponds to our showrooms and presence campus, which our customers visit when they want to learn more about our solutions,” Prati continues. “Digital Arena’ is the interactive portal for the digital events of Biesse, Intermac and Diamut. Visitors can participate in webinars and watch live demonstrations. A digital place dedicated to the processing of wood, glass, stone and modern materials, a place to share content, stimulate the exchange of ideas and initiate discussions,” explains Prati.

Management strengthened

The management floor of Robert Bürkle GmbH in Freudenstadt is newly formed: “With immediate effect, Dipl.-Kfm. Jürgen Müller and Dipl.-Wirtsch.-Ing. Olaf Hartwig strengthen the management of Robert Bürkle GmbH, Freudenstadt. As CFO, Jürgen Müller is responsible for the commercial area and finances. As COO, Olaf Hartwig manages production and materials management,” explains Dipl.-Ing. Jürgen Schröer. Olaf Rohrbeck continues to be the Managing Director responsible for Sales/Marketing and Technology (CSO/CTO). At the same time, Rohrbeck will represent the Freudenstadt company externally as spokesman of the management board.

The managing directors Müller and Hartwig are very experienced managers in their fields. They have worked successfully in various market-leading companies in the consulting, medical technology and automotive sectors. From his previous CEO position, Schröer will take over the chairmanship of the company’s advisory board in July to coordinate the medium and long-term orientation. At first he will concentrate especially on the further development and expansion of the important Bürkle location Shanghai. “The development in China is very promising for us”, says Schröer about his new task.

In close coordination and with the support of the Munich-based private equity shareholder Auctus Capital Partners, Bürkle’s management focuses on structural and organic dynamics. Essential product segments, such as surface finishing and press technologies, will be systematically expanded. “With the strengthened management structure we push the company development. Especially in the international markets we are gaining speed,” Rohrbeck presents core elements of the Bürkle course.
