Strongly strengthens the area of technology, standardisation and research

Since the beginning of March, Dr. Dan Talpeanu and Roger Starke jointly head the Technology, Research and Standardisation Department of the VDMA Woodworking Machinery Association. Together they succeeded Dr Eckhard Licher, who retired at the end of last year.

“With this double staffing, projects for the internationalisation of standards for machine safety on woodworking machines will be consistently implemented and expanded by the association. Simultaneously, topics such as OPC UA or ETML will be vigorously pushed forward for the woodworking machine construction,” said Dr Bernhard Dirr, Managing Director of the VDMA Woodworking Machinery.

Dr Talpeanu, who was already appointed to the VDMA Association since the end of 2019, is responsible for the areas of technical representation and research. The mechanical engineer earned his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart. Prior to this, he worked for three years at the power tool manufacturer HILTI as a technical project manager. Before this, he was head of the wood and composite material machining research group at the Institute for Machine Tools at the University of Stuttgart.

Roger Starke, who has been technical advisor at VDMA since 2006, has extensive experience in the fields of standardisation on DIN, CEN and ISO level. Parallel to this, he will be responsible for standardisation activities in the field of printing and paper technology. He studied mechanical engineering and printing technology at the Technical University of Chemnitz and worked in the printing industry before joining the VDMA. In the fields of standardisation on machine safety, the Association organises the work of the German mirror committee NA 060-06-01 “Woodworking machines – Safety” and, together with experts from the member companies, represents the interests at the corresponding European and international committees CEN/TC 142 and ISO/TC 39/SC4.

“Dr. Eckhard Licher, who for decades headed the technical division of VDMA Woodworking Machinery, deserves great thanks for his achievements!” said Dirr.
