Organizes a virtual fair at the end of October

The International Woodworking Fair (“IWF”) was supposed to have been held in Atlanta from August 25 to 28 – and, like almost all other events this year, was cancelled due to the global corona pandemic. As a replacement, the organizers in America have now come up with a new concept: From Monday, October 26 to Friday, October 30, there will be a virtual show. The “IWF Connect”.

“,IWF Connect’ is the brand new virtual trade fair without walls, which offers unlimited possibilities to the woodworking industry. For five consecutive days in October, ‘IWF Connect’ will bring participants and exhibitors together in a virtual market week, where the latest products, technologies, innovations and solutions of the global woodworking industry will be presented in an easy-to-navigate online world,” the American organizers say.

Exhibitors at the online trade fair “IWF Connect” benefit from direct access to a large audience from the woodworking industry and can individually design a virtual trade fair showcase with images, videos, brochures, press releases and links. In addition, they can put a picture gallery online to promote new products separately. Contact with visitors to the virtual trade fair is made directly via virtual business cards and e-mail, and all “stand visitors” are recorded. In addition to this offer there is a platform for live demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions and to give show specials a home. If interested, social media and webinars can be integrated.

Visitors to “IWF Connect” will receive free access after registration, and can then communicate directly with exhibitors via live chat and virtual meetings. They can participate in live demonstrations or follow webinars. Special prices are available for certain products via “IWF Connect” and with the “My IWF Connect” exhibition planner, this unique experience can be planned very personally.

Exhibitors are already in the process of designing their new showrooms, and participant registration begins on September 1.

To manufacture the world’s longest continuous press

With the construction of a 80-meter-long CPS+, Dieffenbacher will set a world record for the longest continuous press used to produce wood-based panels. The press is the core component of an MDF plant ordered from Dieffenbacher in July by Chinese wood-based panels manufacturer Guangxi Lelin Forestry Development Co, Ltd.
“In planning the world’s largest MDF plant, we are excited to have Dieffenbacher at our side once again as a project partner,” said Guangxi Lelin President Wei Mingkuai. A high-speed THDF plant in Nanning that produces up to 1 mm thin boards was ordered by Guangxi Lelin from Dieffenbacher in June 2018 and commissioned in October 2019.

“We are extremely satisfied with the performance of our THDF line and the support provided by Dieffenbacher before, during and after the construction of the plant. They have fully earned the trust we placed in them,” Wei Mingkuai said. “True to the motto ‘never change a winning team,’ Dieffenbacher was the logical choice for our new project. We look forward to deepening our partnership.”

In addition to the CPS+, Dieffenbacher will supply equipment ranging from the air grader to the storage system. With state-of-the-art automation and control systems, the MDF line will meet the highest demands of digitalization.

Plant construction is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2021 in the southern Chinese city of Chongzuo, not far from the Vietnamese border. Start-up is planned for fall 2021.

Concludes second quarter with positive result

The lockdowns in key markets linked to the Covid 19 pandemic have also affected the sales performance of Surteco Group. As a result, half-yearly sales of EUR 297.1 million were 16 percent below the previous year’s figure (EUR 352.7 million). Adjusted for currency effects and the impregnation business sold in July 2019, the comparable decline was 11 percent. In view of falling raw material prices and a high degree of cost flexibility, e.g. through the use of short-time working, the Group was able to achieve earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of EUR 35.2 million (Q2- 2020: EUR 11.4 million) and an operating result (EBIT) of EUR 14.4 million (Q2-2020: EUR 1.0 million) in the first half of the year.

Despite the crisis-related burdens, Surteco reported a positive free cash flow of EUR 8.6 million (H1-2019: EUR 16.4 million) at the half-year stage. The cash flow from investing activities of minus EUR 20.0 million (H1-2019: minus EUR 17.5 million) also includes the acquisition of the remaining 15 percent stake in Nenplas Group and the sale of the shares in Canplast Mexico. Demand is expected to pick up again in the second half of the year, but is likely to remain below pre-crisis levels. Thanks to the high quality of its balance sheet and liquidity of over EUR 100 million, the company considers itself well equipped for the future.

“Surteco has successfully implemented all necessary measures both to protect its workforce from the Covid-19 pandemic and to maintain its financial solidity. As a result, we were able to continue to report solid earnings and free cash flow development at the half-year stage. If the situation does not worsen again, we hope that business will gradually pick up again in the second half of the year,” comments Wolfgang Moyses, CEO of Surteco Group, on the situation.

Different development in the segments

Covid-19 led to a noticeable decrease in revenues in the Decoratives segment from EUR 253.7 million to EUR 214.6 million. Segment EBIT decreased from 17.3 million Euro to 10.4 million Euro. By contrast, the Profiles segment was able to defy the crisis and increase its revenues by five percent to EUR 49.6 million (H1-2019: EUR 47.2 million). EBIT also increased from 5.0 million Euro to 5.1 million Euro. Sales in the Technicals segment fell from € 51.8 million to € 32.9 million. This is attributable to the pandemic-related decline in demand and to the divested impregnation business (previous year’s contribution to sales of € 15.3 million). Thanks to improved cost efficiency, however, the segment result rose from € 1.1 million to € 1.8 million.

Thanks to countermeasures taken early on, a slightly positive operating result was achieved in the second quarter despite the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic. Since demand is expected to gradually pick up in the second half of the year, but is unlikely to reach pre-crisis levels, the Company continues to assume that, as already announced at the end of April, sales and operating result for the year as a whole will be significantly below the original targets of EUR 675 to 700 million and EUR 40 to 45 million respectively.

As of 2012, he will become managing director of Siempelkamp Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH in Krefeld and will be responsible for the worldwide sales of all product divisions and the manufacturing of the Group’s production sites.

Launches a global hybrid event for all divisions with “Inside in Action

Inspired by “Inside Biesse”, the industry’s well-established meeting place, the Biesse Group is launching a new event in the autumn with digital and live content. From October 5 to 30, “Inside in Action” will involve all the Group’s divisions (Biesse, Intermac, Diamut), i.e. the processing of wood, modern materials, glass and stone. The venues are the company campus in Pesaro and the digital platform “Digital Arena”.
The event is divided into the sections “Inside Live”, “Inside Next” and “Inside Play”.

For “Inside Live” Biesse will open its 5,000 square metre showrooms Wood & Advanced Materials and Glass & Stone Technologie. There – in compliance with the safety and distance rules – all innovations that could not be presented at trade fairs this year can be experienced live. More than 40 machines, software and digital services will be presented. Customers can book tours and personalized technical demos of the technologies of interest to them in advance.

“Inside Next” includes live and digital content. On 15 and 16 October a Tech Show will present technological innovations in the field of woodworking and modern materials. On 22 and 23 October the focus will then be on solutions for the glass and stone segment.

“Inside Play” will take place exclusively digitally from 26 to 30 October and can be visited via any stationary or mobile device. Among other things, it includes training webinars and live demos. Biesse attaches great importance to interactivity and internationality: users can ask questions that are answered in real time. In addition, the webinars are to include all subsidiaries worldwide. This will enable customers to participate in live webinars, which will be available in the most important local languages. At a later date, content will also be available on-demand via the “Digital Arena” platform.

“‘Inside in Action’ is a historic event, unique and absolutely new in our industry,” said Federico Broccoli, Chief Commercial and Subsidiaries Officer. “It is an opportunity not to be missed, as it presents all the technologies developed by Biesse, Intermac and Diamut on an international scale and involves the entire group. An important role will also be played by the 39 subsidiaries of the Group, which will make the range of available content, technologies and advanced solutions increasingly accessible for the benefit of our customers”.

"Interzum Guangzhou"

Successful relaunch of Koelnmesse with 800 exhibitors and 100,000 visitors in China – With video

Excitement and great anticipation accompanied the start of the first Koelnmesse event since the beginning of the Corona crisis: The “Interzum Guangzhou” in China (27 to 30 July 2020) has shown that trade fairs with strict hygiene regulations and limited admissions, for example in the catering areas, are possible despite the pandemic – and that business is developing well. “The international participation was good considering the circumstances. Through digital business matchmaking, the exhibitors also reached those visitors who were unable to attend,” says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse. “This encourages us in our efforts to organize trade fairs again in our Cologne halls as soon as possible. The success of the ‘Interzum Guangzhou’ gives us the courage to set the course for this together with our customers.
Interzum Guangzhou” was the first major platform for the international furniture supply industry in the second half of the year. More than 800 exhibitors from 16 countries and around 100,000 visitors took advantage of the opportunity to meet suppliers, customers and business partners in person again, to build and strengthen relationships and to get together again as an industry. “The most important thing in the current situation is that our customers feel comfortable and secure at our events,” explains Keith Tsui, Managing Director of Koelnmesse’s Chinese subsidiary. “As event professionals, we see ourselves in a position to create the appropriate framework conditions even in these times.
