Bott Group

Further expands Hungarian site

The Hungarian subsidiary Bott Hungária Kft. has been part of the Bott Group since 1996. in Tarnazsadány is continuously driving forward the expansion of its production and market structures.

Over the past five years, the group has invested five million euros in the site and more than doubled its national turnover during this period. In addition to a massive expansion of the building structures for production and logistics, the recent investments focused in particular on new CNC and other production technologies. As a result, the site has grown to around 200 employees.

Local vehicle expansion in particular is contributing to the continued success of the Hungarian subsidiary. The division has been able to secure further market share in recent years – in a market environment already cited by Bott. The plant is also an integral part of the production network for the entire group of companies. It supplies all business divisions. The products are used in vehicle equipment, operating equipment and workplace systems.

The close integration in the manufacturing process enables the continuous reduction and, above all, stabilization of throughput times in today’s fast-moving business environment. The customer benefits from short and reliable delivery times. “Our Hungarian site is an essential link in our value chain,” says René Leroux, who has been Managing Director and COO of the Bott Group since the end of 2022. “The challenges of recent years have shown how important a strong internal Group infrastructure is for crisis-proof production. Further significant investments in the expansion of our international sites are planned for the future.”

Pfleiderer

Uses around 60 percent waste wood for chipboard

Cascade utilization preferred

When it comes to sustainability, the experts for wood-based materials have set themselves ambitious goals – laid down in the ESG framework. “ReSource” is now another important step with which Pfleiderer is driving forward the sustainable use of resources. “Wood has a reputation for being a particularly sustainable material,” explains Stefan Zinn, CCO of the Pfleiderer Group. “That’s true, but getting the best out of the material depends heavily on how it is used.” That’s why Pfleiderer’s “ReSource” program focuses on recycled used wood – which is key to the sustainable use of this resource. “Building furniture and recycling it thermally after use is both harmful to the climate and a waste of precious resources due to the carbon emissions released earlier than necessary,” says Stefan Zinn. “It is important to exploit the full range of recycling options in accordance with the principles of cascade and closed-loop use.” In concrete terms, this means that wood should only be released for energy recovery at the latest possible time in order to keep theCO2 stored in it in the cycle for a long time. There is another possibility between original use and incineration – namely multiple recycling for optimum material utilization of the resource.

“ReSource”: innovative technology for waste wood recycling

Pfleiderer is the largest cross-sector recycler of used wood in Germany. “The proportion of recycled waste wood in our products is already around 48% – for chipboard it is around 60%. We will significantly increase this proportion for our products by 2025 – and ‘ReSource’ will support us in this,” says Stefan Zinn. With “ReSource”, Pfleiderer has set up an innovative recycling process that enables uniquely reliable separation of foreign matter and allows chip processing of the highest quality and quantity. “In this way, we increase the proportion of waste wood that can be recycled and optimize recyclability from procurement to product.” Customers of the sustainability champion enjoy a number of advantages as a result: they can sell products that are healthy for living and environmentally friendly without having to compromise on good quality. How does it work? Thanks to a sophisticated concept that gets the best out of waste wood.

Complex recycling steps for excellent results

In order for waste wood to be reused, it must undergo a treatment process – so that unwanted foreign substances are eliminated and the requirements of the German Waste Wood Ordinance, the strictest regulation in Europe in this regard, are met. To achieve this, Pfleiderer has been working for decades with its partners in waste wood recycling and machine development on smart methods to keep the raw material wood in the material cycle for as long and as extensively as possible. The result is the individually configured cleaning systems in use today, which are unparalleled in the industry. Safety for processors and consumers comes first: Pfleiderer accepts processed recycled wood chips from category A1 and A2 waste wood from its partners, which only contain a minimal amount of foreign matter. The start of its new life as a recyclable material then begins with pre-cleaning and sorting from fine to coarse. The resulting fractions then pass through several stations in which the remaining foreign matter is selectively removed. “Metals are removed magnetically or using eddy current processes,” explains Zinn. “Non-metals, such as plastics, are then identified and removed using sorting processes with X-rays or infrared detection. The processes that post-consumer recycled wood goes through are complex and even involve the use of AI. We have invested tens of millions in high-tech development for this – but this is necessary in order to end up with a product that meets the quality requirements of Pfleiderer, customers and users, as well as making optimum use of wood as a valuable resource!”

Fair Frankfurt Texprocess
"Techtextil & Texprocess"

Strong start with 1,700 exhibitors and exciting talks

With 1,700 exhibitors from 53 countries, “Techtextil” and “Texprocess” are once again the center for trend-setting innovations in the international textile industry this year. For its 20th edition, “Techtextil” shines with a new size. Texprocess” is also strongly positioned across all product groups. The materials, products, machines and processes presented at the two trade fairs, as well as the new business alliances established, set an important course for the future of the industry. “Frankfurt is once again the focal point for textile and technological innovations, which are often presented to the public for the first time at Techtextil and Texprocess. These are an important indicator and driver for the future of many other branches of industry. On its 20th anniversary, Techtextil is bigger than ever before and, together with Texprocess, is in top form”, said Detlef Braun, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt GmbH, in his speech.

The trade fairs already provided impetus at the opening in the panel talk on the topic: From textile recycling to garment processing – the role of AI. Chloé Salmon Legagneur, Director, CETIA, Prof. Dr. Ingo Rollwagen, AMD Akademie Mode & Design / Hochschule Fresenius, Senior Advisor IMP Consulting, Elgar Straub, Managing Director VDMA Textile Care, Fabrics and Leather Technologies and Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies, Messe Frankfurt discussed the potential applications in textile production and processing.

Artificial intelligence in the textile industry – finding new ways, exploiting potential and improving existing processes. AI promises a multitude of opportunities for progress in the textile industry. The advantages are obvious: efficient, competitive, transparent and sustainable. However, making the best use of AI for your own company requires know-how, investment and the right technologies. The panel talk looked at how AI can be used optimally in the textile industry from different perspectives. For example, intelligent error detection during production or optimized material calculations make production and processing faster, better and more sustainable. On the other hand, AI can create completely new products.

“AI expands the scope for innovation. In addition to speeding up and increasing the efficiency of existing processes, it creates new added value by improving products. For example, in the form of circular, regenerative textile solutions with longer life cycles. In the future, AI will make it possible to no longer do the same thing faster, but to create completely new, better, more individual and more sustainable textile solutions that are better tailored to customers and better for the environment at the same time,” explains Prof. Dr. Ingo Rollwagen in his keynote speech.

The EU Green Deal calls for scalable recycling solutions. New developments with AI will provide a remedy in the future. For example, by differentiating between textile and non-textile materials, such as zippers, and automatically separating them. The French innovation platform “Cetia” develops industrial solutions that prepare textiles for the recycling process. “Efficient, innovative technologies are needed to enable textile recycling on a large scale. Automation, robotics and AI increase economic efficiency and competitiveness. Interdisciplinary cooperation between research and industry is crucial for this,” explains Chloé Salmon Legagneur in the panel talk.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a buzzword for companies. It is rapidly changing the industry and is finding its way into more and more applications. This also means that the industry must engage with AI in order to remain competitive and exploit the many benefits that AI offers. Techtextil and Texprocess, as the international meeting place for the industry, are the first port of call for information and exchange.
