Awarded Gold by EcoVadis

Responsible and sustainable actions play a major role for Pfleiderer. The external review by EcoVadis has now recognized this fact and the company’s efforts with a gold medal. The sustainability rating by EcoVadis, one of the world’s largest providers in this field, evaluates 21 criteria from the areas of environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

Over the past two years, Pfleiderer has made visible a large number of its years of CSR activities relating to production and products, customers, employees and society. For example, the first sustainability report was presented, almost the entire product range was awarded the Blue Angel and the first product lines were certified in accordance with the “Cradle to Cradle Certified” program. In addition, the company joined the Initiative for Climate Protection in the Wood Industry and created a carbon footprint for the company and its products. In 2021, the company also launched its new sustainability strategy “Naturally Sustainable”. For its commitment, the company has now received the gold medal from EcoVadis as an award for sustainability.

“After being awarded silver in the previous year, we are very pleased to have achieved the gold medal with our second participation in this evaluation. This puts Pfleiderer in the top four percent of the over 90,000 companies evaluated from more than 160 countries and 200 industries in the overall evaluation,” explained Dr. Frank Herrmann, COO of the Pfleiderer Group. “However, much more important to us are the insights we gain regarding open points and measures that still need to be taken.”

Pfleiderer had already formulated clear targets at the beginning of 2021. For example, the share of recycled wood is to be increased to 50 percent by 2025, and CO2 emissions are to be reduced by 21 percent in the same period compared to the base year 2020. At the end of the same year, Pfleiderer joined the UN Global Compact and defined its future course in its ESG Framework, as well as further clear targets in the areas of raw materials, climate and people.

“In recent months, we have been able to build the future direction of our company on an excellent foundation,” said Dr. Herrmann. “We see the gold rating now awarded by EcoVadis as confirmation of the work we have done and an incentive for future performance.”
