Has been awarded a silver medal from Ecovadis

After a rigorous assessment process, The Vita Group has achieved a Silver rating from Ecovadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, further bolstering the PU foam manufacturer’s environmental credentials.

Ian Robb, CEO of The Vita Group, said: “Over The Vita Group’s 70-year history, we have seen it as our responsibility to be at the vanguard of the development of sustainable technologies within the PU foam manufacturing industry. We are pleased to have been awarded the Silver Ecovadis rating as it is external recognition of our strong environmental credentials.”

During the assessment process, Ecovadis analysts considered The Vita Group’s overall Environmental Management System, its policies, the actions the Group has taken and the results it has seen.

Looking to the future, The Vita Group will continue to deliver upon the pledges made in its ESG strategy, enhancing everyday life. It will be publishing its first annual sustainability report in the first half of 2022. This report will document The Vita Group’s progress against the stretching environmental, social and governance objectives (ESG) detailed in the enhancing everyday life vision.

“In recent years, The Vita Group has invested heavily in driving forward the circularity of our products. We’ve been improving the sustainability standard of our open operations, through cutting our carbon output amongst other things,” said Robb.

“It is a privilege to see that hard work awarded a silver sustainability rating from Ecovadis. However, we wouldn’t be ‘Vita’ if we didn’t wish to see higher ratings moving forward. Recent innovation developments position us to push even harder on our ESG journey in 2022.”

Sales cooperation expands the range

After many years of a classic customer-supplier relationship, they are now also making common cause in sales: the surface specialist Schattdecor and the independent impregnator Hans Schmid GmbH & Co. KG Gronau (HSG) are expanding their range of products and services through a recently entered sales cooperation.

Schattdecor now also offers its customers the “MFS-Tec” and “MFS-Touch” products developed and manufactured by HSG. The sales infrastructure and international network of the world market leader Schattdecor will be used to acquire new customers, particularly in the regions of North and South America, Asia-Pacific and Russia. HSG will continue to market directly to existing customers.

Super matt and at the same time scratch-resistant surfaces with an anti-fingerprint effect are enjoying steadily increasing demand. With “MFS-Touch”, HSG offers a solution here for plain and printed decor paper in the classic multi-sheet structure in processing in short-cycle, multi-daylight and double belt press lines.

One field of application for the “MFS-Tec” technology developed by HSG is, among others, the use for HPL compact boards in outdoor applications. Thus, Schattdecor’s decor options can be used to create almost limitless design possibilities for visually appealing facade systems while meeting the highest demands for weather resistance.

With these new components in the overall package “One Source. Unlimited Solutions.” package, Schattdecor and HSG offer their discerning customers worldwide an additional service from a single source.

The industry is looking forward to “Interzum” 2023

The future is starting again for furniture production and interior design on 9 May 2023 in Cologne, because no other industry event in the world provides impulses for the global furniture supplier industry in such a needs and future-oriented fashion as “Interzum”. Decision makers, opinion leaders, multipliers and trendsetters from all over the world keep up with the innovations in the sector, seek out and find new and inspiring ideas and meet valuable established and new contacts. interzum is an opportunity for the global supplier industry to reveal all its innovative power every two years: what remains? What’s coming next? Divided by themes, it provides all the prerequisites for an effective trade fair visit, because its structure brings the stakeholders in the value creation chain into close contact – and provides exhibitors and visitors alike with a good overview.

After interzum 2019 inspired more than 70,000 trade visitors and 1,800 exhibitors from around the world, the companies are again looking forward to the next live experience in May 2023. “There is an almost longing anticipation for a personal reunion in Cologne in May 2023. We can sense in the many discussions we are currently having that visitors and exhibitors are already longing for “Interzum” 2023 as their leading international trade fair for allowing them to present their innovations live on location, to exchange ideas about these, to be able to take the products in their hands and especially to finally meet once again in person – thus, everything that makes a physical trade fair so unique!”, Maik Fischer, Director of “Interzum”, is convinced.

Almost all of the global major players from the three “Interzum” segments have already registered, including several renowned returnees and new exhibitors. Many small and medium-sized businesses and hidden champions have also already committed to “Interzum” 2023. “One indicator for this estimation, which pleases us greatly and fills us with gratitude, are the exhibitor registration figures and names to date prior to the expiration of the first early bird discount on 31.10.2021. When one considers that there is still a good 1.5 years until the next “Interzum”, we can already now dare the forecast against this background that “Interzum” 2023 has the potential to reach at least the level of “Interzum” 2019, which still remains unique in its dimensions“, Maik Fischer is convinced.

interzum is the meeting point for the international furniture and interior design industries. The trade fair presents the entire spectrum of the global market like no other sector event. This gives exhibitors and trade visitors a unique opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of the industry’s most important innovations and trends – and that at a single event. The theme segments of “Materials & Nature”, “Function & Components”, and “Textile & Machinery” are only waiting to be brought to life and discovered by visitors.

Considered from a global perspective, the requirements of living and work worlds are changing.  Megatrends like the advance of digitalisation, ever-greater individualisation and the strong desire for even greater sustainability are influencing the furniture industry and its products. Innovations in interior design must be more environmentally friendly, and at the same time more connected and more personal. “Interzum” consciously responds to these themes and incorporates them into an inspiring event programme. In three theme-related trend forums, “Interzum” presents inspirations in the context of central trends of the furniture and interior design industries. Thus, for example, the forum on “Materials & Nature” is dedicated to innovative and pioneering materials and production technologies, while the forum on the theme of “Textile & Machinery” presents the most important trends and innovations in mattress production and the related circular economy. The knowledge transfer for visitors and exhibitors will be supplemented with a new format, the interzum Academy: here, interzum will present a high quality and visionary lecture programme that is supplemented by exhibitor lectures with a pronounced ready-to-market focus – and the whole thing will take place in a hybrid form, thus both in Cologne at the physical trade fair and in the digital realm.

“Interzum @home” 2021 laid the foundation not least for the “Interzum Academy” and demonstrated impressively how creatively and flexibly the furniture supplier industry is dealing with the challenges of our time, and how they are enthusiastically grasping opportunities and using them to their advantage. With the experiences of “Interzum @home” 2021, the continuing development of “Interzum” into a full-fledged, hybrid event approach is being pursued hand-in-hand with the exhibiting and visiting industry. The familiar exceptional standard of the physical presentation in Cologne will be complemented by attractive digital offerings – to create a trade fair experience that is unique in every respect.

Purchases “Jupiter” digital printing system from Hymmen

I4F, a group of companies providing patents and technologies to the flooring industry, today announced that CFL Flooring has acquired a Hymmen “Jupiter” digital printing line for its US facility and, has signed a new digital printing technologies license agreement with i4F. This reinforces CFL’s long term digital printing strategy as well as the company’s commitment to innovation “firsts” whilst reducing its carbon footprint. CFL’s next-generation rigid core produces will be produced using Hymmen’s “Jupiter JPT-C” print-to-board line.

With some 4,500 employees, CFL Flooring is a global leader and innovator in rigid core manufacturing as well as other hybrid vinyl floor covering solutions. Over the last eighteen months, the company has heavily invested in its state-of the-art production facility in Calhoun, Georgia (USA), that is now fully operational. The new “Jupiter” digital printing line will be be located in Calhoun and be used to produce CFL’s next-generation rigid core lines.

In addition to the multiple design and production advantages, CFL’s decision to buy the digital printing line was driven by its goal to reduce its carbon footprint as well as to become more sustainable. Digital printing eliminates the need for certain elements, including décor films and plastic wear layers, thus reducing the total amount of PVC use, reducing plastic waste, as well as reducing the impact of supply chain strains linked to production.

Designed to enable 24/7 industrial production, Hymmen’s “Jupiter JPT-C” print-to-board lines deliver intelligent and highly precise register accuracy. This ensures the highest levels of color stability and print quality output while maintaining printing speeds of 25-50 meters per minute.

i4F licenses the world’s most advanced digital printing technologies and offers exclusive access to all Hymmen digital printing technologies in the flooring sector. Digital printing will play a crucial role in the future of new material flooring as it enables unlimited design and embossing-in-register flexibility and can be applied to a wide range of materials. This facilitates faster response times to market demands and trends while reducing material waste.

“CFL has long been committed to its vision of leading flooring innovation,” said Thomas Baert, President and co-founder of CFL Flooring. “I believe we were the first manufacturer to push rigid core in a massive way. Our aim is to continue to be top of mind with our partners when they think of first to market innovations and second-to-none marketing and customer support. Digital printing is the next logical step.”

"Zow" 2022

Be there in May at the first major industry gathering

Collecting ideas, cultivating contacts, finding solutions for the challenges of the future, the “Zow” – supplier fair for the furniture industry and interior design – will become an incubator for innovations in 2022. The trade fair, which is popular in the industry and is both a creative workshop and order fair for suppliers to the furniture industry in Germany and neighboring countries, will be held in Bad Salzuflen from May 3 to 5, 2022 due to the pandemic. As the first industry-relevant trade fair since last fall, the next “Zow” will serve to determine the position for many visitors, because the pressure to innovate and the demand for unusual new and smart product solutions in particular is enormous.

The “Zow” stands for an innovative concept and promotes fresh thinking. Therefore, it is the platform for companies that score with their approaches in this spirit and for visitors who are looking for exactly such “hidden solutions” to be the famous step ahead in the competition. That is why the aim of the “Zow” team is to find the right mix of exhibitors between “global players”, innovative medium-sized companies and “start-ups”. This was well achieved for the event planned in February. Accordingly, the response to the sales talks started last week for the “Zow” in May 2022 is already gratifyingly good on the exhibitor side. Of the companies that previously took part at the original date in February alone, the vast majority also want to make a binding commitment to take part in May. In addition, many promising discussions with potential exhibitors are still pending in the coming weeks. With the early booking discount ending on February 18, 2022, and the attractive combination offer “‘Zow’ 2022 plus ‘Interzum’ 2023”, all the arguments speak in favor of the two important industry events in 2022 and 2023.

The furniture industry and interior design plus their suppliers, machine outfitters and service providers are among the well-positioned growth sectors. Particularly in the current difficult times and under the renovation backlog that has been building up for many years in Europe’s housing market, many consumers are focusing on updating or expanding their interior design. Demand is correspondingly high. Supply chain disruptions and the general upsurge in prices demand timely, acceptable, competitive solutions – which should also be produced in a sustainable and responsible manner. The perfect, closest-dated platform for discussing and finding solutions to all these challenges is therefore “Zow” in May 2022.

Schiele & Unilin Technologies

Partner up to roll-out the “Unicoat” technology for waterproof flooring

Schiele Maschinenbau and Unilin Technologies have signed a cooperation agreement to formalize their partnership on the Unicoat technology. With this partnership, Schiele will become the official dealer of the Unicoat coating material and machine integrations needed to apply the patented technology, forming a one-stop-shop for all producers that are looking to integrate a new water-resistant edge-coating.

“This partnership is another important step in the further roll-out of waterproof flooring products,” explains Bart Van Der Stockt, President of Unilin Technologies. “Now there is an all-in solution available for everything producers need to integrate this groundbreaking patented technology into their production process.”

“Schiele Maschinenbau is the perfect match for this project, thanks to their extensive knowledge and expertise with coatings and application systems in the flooring industry. They are perfectly equipped to tackle large scale introductions of Unicoat, several of which are already planned to take place in 2022. “

Stefan Schiele, CEO of Schiele Maschinenbau commented: “We are happy to be a part of this amazing project with Unilin Technologies. After a thorough analysis of the patent situation and testing many different solutions to make flooring products waterproof, we are convinced that the Unicoat solution is the best performing technology available.”
Unicoat water-repellent edge-coating for flooring prevents liquids from penetrating into the joints of a floor and protects a floor from any long-lasting water damages. The coating forms the ultimate protection against water leakages and prevents damages and nuisances seen in floors when having been exposed to excessive amounts of water over a long period of time.

"CIFM" / "Interzum Guangzhou"

Thriving furniture market and customization trends in China set stage for the fairs in March 2022

Latest housing data from China shows that in the past three years, sale of the country’s commercial housing has increased by as much as 15 times by area compared with the previous ten years. By 2030, 70.6 per cent of China will be urbanized, with urban population estimated to increase by another 200 million.

Home ownership for the 20 to 50-year-old segment is expected to enter a stage of moderate-speed and high-quality growth. With surging per capita income and shrinking family size, future housing area is set to jump by 20 per cent.

This has also given birth to the rapid development of whole-house customization, system doors and windows, as well as soft furnishings. Three major industries in China – home furnishing, building materials and home improvement – are poised enter a golden age.

Currently, the country accounts for 25 per cent of the world’s furniture production capacity. It is also the world’s leading furniture producer, consumer and exporter, hence attracting companies from all over the world to tap into this burgeoning market.

“CIFM / interzum guangzhou” 2022 will be held in the namesake city from March 28, concurrently with the China International Furniture Fair. Among the 2,100 exhibitors, international companies from more than 30 countries and regions will be injecting a host of product varieties. The events are expected to span 340,000 square meters and play host to nearly 200,000 trade visitors over four days.

Launchpad for quality accessories

Whole-house customization is the current trend in the home furnishing industry, and consumers are more willing to choose brands with high quality products, convenient applications, and an immersive shopping experience.

It is worth noting that all leading furniture brands publicly listed in the country position themselves as premium, intelligent as well as health- and experience-oriented. Such companies are, undoubtedly, more discerning when selecting accessory suppliers.

Recognized as the premier flagship industry exhibition, “CIFM / interzum guangzhou” is a gathering of leading companies in the woodworking machinery, furniture manufacturing and interior decor industries in Asia annually.

The launch of the “20 PLUS 20 Annual List” – interzum guangzhou Outstanding Furniture Accessories Awards in 2018 aims to identify innovative products that serve as a guide for industry development.
Once again, helming the judging panel as consultant for 2021-2022 is renowned international designer and creative director of the German-based imm cologne, Mr. Dick Spierenburg. Products nominated will be evaluated based on multiple dimensions such as quality, innovation and practicality to ensure relevance to current industry demands. Representatives from winning companies of the top 20 products will receive their accolade at the “20 PLUS 20” Awards Ceremony held during the event. Visitors will be able to study the award-winning products up-close at the “20 PLUS 20” Concept Showcase Area during show days.

In addition, winners of the “20 PLUS 20” Outstanding Accessories Awards for 2021-2022 will also share design ideas, development history and practical applications of the award-winning products. Participants will have an opportunity for in-depth dialogue with industry leaders, design and trend experts, and be inspired by new concepts and ideas.

Diversified activities meet trade opportunities

Practicality and price are two factors that consumers value in the furniture market, while technology, convenience and comfort are key demands. Therefore, hardware accessories and components need to be more flexible and diverse.

In addition, there is increasing necessity for upholstered furniture makers to focus on the research and development and application of recycled materials, which meet degradability and recyclability requirements.
At the same time, the development of adhesives, coatings and chemical raw materials is moving towards higher quality and improved standards.

As for wood products and panels, affected by factors such as rising prices of raw materials, enterprises need considerable investment and innovative technologies to achieve sustainable solutions. Woodworking machinery is gradually moving from designing products and production lines to a higher level of designing the entire factory. Equipment needs to be more flexible to meet the needs of customized furniture production, and intelligent manufacturing is an inevitable trend in the Industry 4.0 era.

Only products that focus on sustainability, low cost, practicality and aesthetic living can fully meet the needs of the market. This has raised the bar for new material development, innovative technology applications, product design and functional research and development.

The “VSIL” Forum revolving around the theme “Vitality of Sustainable Innovation to Life” will be launched in 2022, which will see key industry giants Henkel, Kleiberit, Schattdecor, REHAU, Sugatsune as well as consumer trend agency WGSN joining hands for the first time to form a Strategic Advisory Panel to share with participants from all over the world on the sustainable development of companies and products, technical issues faced, design innovations, and cutting-edge trends.

“CIFM / interzum guangzhou” will continue to provide onsite one-to-one business matching opportunities for furniture manufacturers, customization companies, designers, and real estate developers with clear procurement needs. Livestreaming and online business matching will also continue to take place for overseas buyers to connect with enterprises in real time.

With the effective combination of online and onsite model, both buyers and exhibitors can get their hands on the pulse of the Chinese market, experience cutting-edge new product displays, find the right business partners, and obtain inspirations for new product development.

Online pre-registration for the exhibition is now available. Visitors who pre-register before January 18, 2022 will get to enjoy fast-tracked entry, a complimentary show catalogue, and an exclusive gift pack.
