Has bought the sales partner Grafitroniks S.A.

Zünd has had a very successful presence in the French market for many years through its distribution partners Grafitroniks S.A. and Fogepack S.A.S. Zünd Systemtechnik AG acquired Grafitroniks S.A., based in Vitry-sur-Seine, at the beginning of 2020. At the same time, the partnership with Fogepack will be continued.

Since the beginning of 2020, Grafitroniks SA has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Zünd Systemtechnik AG and now operates under the name Zund France. Grafitroniks has been an official sales and service partner of Zünd Systemtechnik AG since 1985 and serves numerous customers throughout France. At the same time, the partnership with Fogepack, which has existed since 2003, will be continued. The company, based in Leulinghem in northern France, has enormous experience and expertise, particularly in the graphics and packaging industries. It will continue to be a competent contact point for advice, sales and service for its numerous customers in the French markets.

Zund France employs 15 people in Vitry-sur-Seine, just a few kilometres from Paris, who look after a cutter fleet of over 800 machines. A separate showroom offers customers and interested parties the opportunity to experience the diverse possibilities of digital cutting technology on site. The employees are proven experts in consulting, training, installation and service.

“We are very pleased to welcome Zund France to our globally active group of companies. Through the close cooperation with our new subsidiary and our sales partner Fogepack we would like to further strengthen our business in France and expand our customer base. I am convinced that together we can offer our French customers the best possible service in the long term. With the resources available to us and the vast experience of our French partners, we will be able to continue to grow and further optimize our customer support,” explains Oliver Zünd, CEO of Zünd Systemtechnik AG.

For 36 years, the Zünd name has stood for Swiss quality, sustainability and technically groundbreaking digital cutting systems. As – by its own account – both innovation and market leader, Zünd Systemtechnik AG has repeatedly set the pace in the development of multifunctional system solutions. The company now has ten branches around the world and a global network of dealers underscores the international orientation of the Swiss engineering company.

"Ligna" 2021

The focus topics are fixed

As the world’s leading trade show for woodworking and wood processing equipment, machinery and tools, “Ligna” is looked to as a guide for the key issues that will shape the wood industry in the coming years. The next edition of LIGNA, running from 10 to 14 May 2021, will put the spotlight on the digital transformation of the woodworking industry, prefabrication processes in timber construction and the bioeconomy. These three focus topics will be reflected at individual tradeshow stands as well as throughout the various forums and special displays – as well as at the “Ligna Guided Tours”.

Digitalization is driving innovation throughout the global economy, including in the wood industry, where digital technologies are no longer limited to peripheral functions for production operations, but are fundamentally reshaping business models and processes. That is why the focus topic of Woodworking Transformation will again feature prominently at “Ligna” 2021. The digital solutions on display will cover a wide range of areas – from planning and design to production and quality monitoring. More and more manufacturers of machinery for processing solid and engineered wood are offering digital systems solutions. Industrial plant providers are increasingly opting for robotics systems for materials handling, human-machine interaction and surfacing functions. Key themes include cloud-based data management, standardization and interfaces, building information modeling (BIM), timber flow management and augmented and virtual reality applications. Digitalization is also opening up major opportunities in the skilled trades, both when it comes to meeting the rising demand for custom solutions and the implementation of complete concepts.

The timber construction industry is increasingly trending towards modularization and standardization. In the multi-level timber construction sector, the development of prefabrication systems has picked up speed in recent years. The benefits of prefabrication are clear: shorter on-site construction times ease the cost of financing and reduce construction site emissions. These benefits go on top of the inherent benefits of timber as a construction material: it is sustainable and recyclable and requires minimal energy at the production and processing stages. These are all good reasons to feature Prefab Building Processes as a focus topic at “Ligna” 2021. The show will shine a light on how timber is used as a building material and the individual planning, prefabrication and assembly steps involved in multi-level construction. It will also cover the use of timber in existing building structures.

The concept of the bioeconomy has gained considerable political and economic traction around the world in recent years. Bioeconomy refers to the transition from a fossil fuel and mineral resources-based economy to a renewable resources-based economy. As one of the world’s most important renewable resources, wood has a central role to play in this process. By choosing Green Material Processing as the third focus topic for “Ligna” 2021, the organizers are highlighting the economic and technological innovations arising from the new processing and finishing options for timber as a key renewable resource. Coverage will include the relevant technologies, research findings, regulatory framework and practical results – especially as regards potential added value for SMEs. The focus topic will also be reflected in “Ligna’s” existing comprehensive exhibits of colors, liquid coatings, lubricants and 3D printing systems. Additional coverage will focus on the challenges and developments of the global wood-based bioeconomy.

Partnership with “Tecnomueble” presented in detail at the opening of the fair

The highlights of the 2020 edition of “MEM Industrial” and the new partnership with “Tecnomueble” were announced on January 22 by Christian Pfeiffer, Global Director of Woodworking Fairs at Deutsche Messe AG, Carlos Cook, Vice President of the Mexican Association of Suppliers to the Wood and Furniture Industry (AMPIMM) and Bernd Rohde, CEO of Hannover Messe México.

Also present at the press conference were Abelardo Arreola Jiménez, President of the Association of Furniture Manufacturers in Jalisco (AFAMJAL), Palmira Arnaz, Coordinator of the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) in Mexico City, Manuel Pérez Cárdenas, Head of the Office of the Presidium of the Association of Chambers of Industry (CONCAMIN), Congresswoman Martha Olivia García Vidaña, Secretary of the Commission for Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Edgar Conzuelo Contreras, CEO of Protectora de Bosques, Estado de México, Marco Ruíz Ruíz, Vice-President of the National Chamber of Woodworking (CANAINMA) and Héctor Silver, CEO of Mahexa Forestal.

During the opening ceremony, Christian Pfeiffer said: “MEM Industrial is the leading platform in Latin America for woodworking technology, including preliminary work and accessories for the furniture industry”, while Bernd Rohde took the opportunity to announce the recent partnership between “MEM Industrial” and “Tecnomueble”, linked to the AFAMJAL association: “This new partnership with AFAMJAL and the other partnerships of ‘MEM Industrial’ with leading international organisations such as the European Association of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers (Eumabois), its German counterpart VDMA, AMPIMM, CONAFOR, the civil society organisation Reforestamos and CANAINMA, have consolidated ‘MEM Industrial’ as the leading trade fair for the supply of machinery, equipment, materials and inputs for the woodworking and furniture industry in Mexico.”

According to AMPIMM (Association of Subcontracting Industries) Vice President Carlos Cook, the fair is “the most important showcase for suppliers of inputs, materials and services for furniture manufacturing. It is undoubtedly the most important trade show in Mexico for the sector, and I am convinced that it will soon become one of the leaders in North America.

The President of AFAMJAL, Abelardo Arreola, added that “MEM Industrial’s partnership with TecnoMueble will be of great benefit to the industry, as it will bring together the two largest exhibitions of furniture machinery and accessories in the country”.

According to CONAFOR (National Forestry Commission) coordinator for Mexico City, Palmira Arnaz, partnerships like the one with ‘MEM Industrial’ promote “joint actions that put municipal forestry companies in direct contact with suppliers of machinery, technologies and materials”, while Manuel Pérez Cárdenas, head of the office of the CONCAMIN (Federation of Industrial Chambers) presidency, added that platforms like this one are essential, since Mexico must “promote sustainable, diversified development in order to make progress on the economic front”.

“MEM Industrial” is a specialized trade show for woodworking and furniture, organized by Hannover Fairs México, a subsidiary of Deutsche Messe. Some 130 exhibitors will be taking part in the fair on an exhibition area of over 14,000 square meters. The Centro Citibanamex, where the event will take place from 22 to 24 January, is expecting 7,000 visitors, covering the entire spectrum from forestry experts and CNC machine manufacturers to industrial designers and carpenters.

The “Tecnomueble” in Guadalajara is the largest exhibition of machines, raw materials and accessories for the Mexican furniture and wood industry. Here products such as wood and veneers, tools, machines, textiles, adhesives, hardware, paints and coatings, abrasives, accessories and much more are exhibited.

Solid sales and expansion of positive financial position

New models, a digital factory and the continuous expansion of the sales and after-sales service network in all strategic markets – the Scm Group continues to focus on innovation. And the results speak for themselves: the group has closed the year 2019 with a turnover of over 700 million euros. This is in line with the record figures of 2018 and the target set for the 2019 financial year. The Italians are also satisfied with the order situation; after the calming of the last few months, it would currently be around the 2019 level, according to Rimini. An improvement compared to 2018 can be seen in the working capital, which is more than 70 million euros. These figures demonstrate the Group’s solidity and its ability to generate liquid funds.

2019 was a thoroughly positive year and was in line with the 2018 figures in all strategic markets and in all business areas of the Group: Scm operates in the wood sector, Cms is the brand for other materials and Hiteco for high-tech industrial components. The group’s objective now is to continue to invest in order to further consolidate the leading position of all business units in their respective competence sectors, from furniture to wood construction and from automotive to aerospace, shipbuilding and plastics processing, and to develop new market niches in rapidly expanding application areas.

“In view of the international economic context and the general trend in our competence markets, we are extremely satisfied with the results achieved, which even exceeded expectations”, said Marco Mancini, General Manager of the Scm Group. “In order to guarantee sustainable results and develop our competitiveness in the current global context, we must maintain an appropriate level of investment and continue to focus increasingly on innovation, digitalization, customer service and continuous training of our staff”.

“Far-sighted decisions have to be made, just as they were made during the last, very intensive year,” comments Giovanni Gemmani, Chairman of the Scm Group. “We are therefore continuing our investments with the aim of being rooted in the markets with solid subsidiaries. The continuous improvement of both our products and services and our competences must be a lifestyle, a fundamental way of thinking and working in order to face with confidence the new challenges that await us”.

The SCM Group clearly sees the recent positive successes as the result of its long-term corporate strategy. Thanks to this strategy, a number of important projects were implemented in the course of 2019:

Last year, more than 3,000 people participated in almost 500 courses with a total of 42,000 training hours. The “Campus”, the training centre of the Scm Group, coordinates and promotes all activities for the development of the professional, technical and managerial skills of the Group’s employees. In addition, the “Campus” offers customers from all industries the opportunity to participate in e-learning courses on the latest technological trends with experts from Scm Group.

Numerous initiatives have been launched to permanently promote the generation of ideas and innovation in all areas of the company. In this context, for example, an “Innovation Award” was created. It is a recognition for employees who “invent” innovative improvements for products and processes for the individual technologies from the wide product range of Scm Group. From 2020, the prize, which has been awarded annually for the past three years, will even be awarded quarterly to further fuel the emergence of innovative ideas for simplifying highly competitive applications.

In addition, the Group’s internal innovation teams will work even more closely with renowned research centers around the world. One focus, for example, is on digital innovations, as these are increasingly becoming decisive competitive factors in mechanical engineering. The same applies to the development of new technologies and applications for processing innovative materials.

Supports the European Council initiative on the protection and sustainable use of forests

Active environmental protection: Last December, the European Council decided to strengthen efforts to protect and sustainably manage international forests with an agenda. The background to this is climate change, but also the realisation that far too much land is still being converted to other uses through clearing. The European Council is very concerned about this global development. In consultation with supplier countries, ways and means should be developed to promote sustainable forest management and its legal use. The Council makes a number of proposals on this subject area which the European Commission should implement with the Member States – it is about supply chains, data collection, monitoring and an intensive dialogue with the partner countries.

The ETTF supports these Council proposals because they aim at sustainable use and can strengthen the duty of care for imports. “In principle, we support dialogue and active assistance in supplier countries to ensure sustainable timber use,” says ETTF General Secretary Thomas Goebel. The rules of due diligence are still not yet known by all European market participants, and implementation and monitoring at administrative level are not at the same level. This creates market distortion and does not serve the very purpose of a European regulation, namely to set the same standards throughout the internal market.

ETTF will play an active role in the implementation of Council decisions by the Commission during its talks in Brussels.

With global production facilities in Germany, North America, China, Russia and India, the specialty paper manufacturer headquartered in Osnabrück, Germany, is now giving more responsibility to the regions. The Felix Schoeller Group’s management has been restructured.

“The Felix Schoeller Group is not only a globally active company, but also a globally manufacturing company with production facilities around the world,” says Hans-Christoph Gallenkamp, CEO of the Felix Schoeller Group. “In order to act quickly and efficiently on an international scale, we have reduced the number of European managers and added international governors,” says Gallenkamp, explaining the decision.

In future, Hans-Christoph Gallenkamp will fill not only his position as CEO of the Group but also that of CSO. He will thus assume the ultimate responsibility for sales.

The Felix Schoeller Group’s Executive Board will continue to comprise Matthias Breimhorst, who as a new member of the Executive Board will take on the role of CFO, Georg Haggenmüller as COO and Stephan Igel as CSO EMEA. In addition, the Executive Board will be formed by the new regional managers Michael Szidat as CEO for North America and Peter Cornelißen as Vice CEO in China.

8th world leading trade fair for industrial painting technology in Karlsruhe in April

Increase quality, productivity and sustainability, improve efficiency and react highly flexibly to different batch sizes and design requirements. These are the challenges facing paint companies in the automotive, capital goods, consumer goods, architectural and all other industries. It makes no difference whether they are painting or coating components made of metals, plastics, wood and wood-based materials, glass, composites or other materials.

As an information and procurement platform for industrial painting technology, “Paintexpo” covers this broad spectrum of applications and tasks. This is confirmed by a glance at the list of exhibitors at the world’s leading trade fair, for whose 8th edition from 21 to 24 April 2020 at the end of December 2019 around 500 companies from 26 countries have already booked their stand locations. With around 16,000 square metres of net exhibition space, they already occupy more than the total exhibition area of the 2018 event, with the global players in the sector as well as innovative small and medium-sized companies being represented. “This enables contract coaters and visitors from in-house coating companies to obtain comprehensive information about the latest developments and trends in all areas of industrial coating technology,” explains Jürgen Haußmann, Managing Director of the organiser Fairfair GmbH.

New subsidiary in Romania

Ostermann has been represented by a new subsidiary in Romania since the beginning of the year.
