Expects economic situation to remain tense
Even though it is difficult to forecast the global economic situation in the coming months, the fittings manufacturer Blum from Vorarlberg is expecting a period of economic weakness that could last for a longer period of time. Compared to the severely affected months of April and May, the company sees positive signs in various international markets in June. However, an overall recovery of the global economy is not yet in sight. Nevertheless, Blum has gradually increased the operational capacities in most of the company’s divisions to full capacity again in recent weeks.
Due to the uncertain economic situation, the company has decided to extend short-time work over the summer months as a safety net. The family-owned company thus considers itself well prepared for any renewed critical developments. “We are pleased with this model and at the same time hope that we will not have to make use of state support if at all possible”, explains Managing Director Philipp Blum. “For us, the responsibility towards our employees is the most important thing. We are pleased that we feel the strong support of our employees especially now”.
As for many companies worldwide, the past months have been very intensive for Blum. At the end of March, the company reduced its operations to a minimum level for three weeks in order to protect the health of its employees. Since mid-April, Blum has been taking cautious steps to open the plant. In June, the fittings expert was able to increase the operational activities to a familiar level for the most part. In doing so, the continuous supply of worldwide customers was ensured at all times.
