Strengthens solid wood segment with additional management board member
Homag Group AG is stepping up the expansion of its solid wood segment and has now appointed Dr Daniel Schmitt as a member of the management board specifically responsible for this business. From the first of July 2021, Dr Daniel Schmitt will head the Solid Wood Processing business unit, with which Homag aims to establish itself as a leading technology partner for sustainable construction with solid wood.
In addition to the subsidiary Weinmann, Homag's solid wood business also includes the two recently acquired Danish companies System TM and Kallesoe. The main suppliers are manufacturers of construction elements for sustainable wooden houses. In this fast-growing sector, Homag wants to significantly expand its market share from the current 10 per cent. In the current year, sales in the solid wood segment are expected to increase to well over 100 million euros.
CEO Ralf W. Dieter emphasises: "We want to become the leading system supplier for timber construction and develop the solid wood business into a second mainstay alongside our activities with the furniture industry. The strengthening of our management team shows how important this new area is to us."
Gerhard Federer, chairman of the supervisory board of Homag Group AG: "The dynamics in the Homag Group are high and in order to sustainably manage the variety of strategic and operational issues, an expansion of the management board is necessary. In Dr. Daniel Schmitt, we have been able to gain a proven expert with great plant and technology expertise. He is an excellent team player and has proven that he can bundle strengths and expand new business areas."
Dr Daniel Schmitt will lead the solid wood business together with the management teams of Weinmann, System TM and Kallesoe. In addition, he will assume responsibility for the CNC technology business unit and quality management on the board. The chemical engineer comes from Homag's parent company Dürr. There, he has headed the environmental technology division Clean Technology Systems since 2017 and was responsible, among other things, for the acquisition and complex integration of the US company Megtec/Universal. Before that, he held various management positions at the Freudenberg Group in Weinheim for many years. Dr Daniel Schmitt explains: "The trend towards sustainability is leading to more and more buildings being made of wood. With the strong position of Weinmann and the recent acquisitions, Homag is well positioned to grow strongly in the solid wood sector. My goal is to showcase the strengths of the newly formed Solid Wood Processing division while maintaining the flexibility and customer proximity of the companies operating within it."
