Melamin

Melamine-based surface finishes are very common on the market and are used, for example, for kitchen surfaces or laminate flooring. A printed or unprinted decorative paper is drawn through a melamine bath, soaked and then dried. In the subsequent manufacturing process, e.g. on KT systems, the melamine-soaked paper is applied to a carrier board under heat and pressure. The melamine, which liquefies again briefly, forms a bond with the carrier board and then acts as an adhesion promoter. At the same time, the bond is covered with a protective melamine surface layer, forming a robust surface that is also highly resistant to scratches and moisture.
