A calender is a machine that is used in the surface processing of various materials such as textiles, plastics, paper and also in wood processing. In the wood industry, the calender is used to create surface structures on wood-based materials such as chipboard, MDF (medium density fibreboard) or HDF (high density fibreboard).
A calender consists of two or more smooth or textured rollers that run through materials such as wood-based materials under high pressure and temperature. The surface of the material is processed by the rollers to create certain textures, patterns or properties.
