Robotics solution SSI Piece Picking wins IFOY Award

The innovative SSI Piece Picking solution for efficient, fully automated single-piece picking won this year’s IFOY Award (International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year Award) and took first place in the “Stationary Robots” category in a market comparison. The coveted IFOY Award was presented at the IFOY Award Night on June 14, 2024 at the Congress Center Baden near Vienna.

The IFOY Award honors the best intralogistics solutions of the year. Suppliers were able to enter their products and system solutions for the competition online in six different categories. The products and solutions nominated for the final were presented during the IFOY Test Days from 10. and April 11, 2024 underwent various tests, including the IFOY test protocol with around 80 criteria and the scientific IFOY Innovation Check. A total of 26 jury members from different nations assessed the test results. The winners were finally announced on June 14, 2024 during the IFOY Award Night in Baden near Vienna.

“We are particularly pleased and proud to have received the IFOY Award. The award confirms our efforts in innovative approaches as well as the sustainability and future viability of our concept in a market comparison,” says Mauro Lunardelli, Head of Business Unit Logistics Solutions at SSI Schaefer. “The award encourages us in the continuous development of our piece picking solution in order to reduce the workload of our employees and at the same time make order processing more efficient and safer.”

The award-winning SSI Piece Picking solution is a joint development of SSI Schaefer and the robotics specialist and subsidiary RO-BER. It impresses with AI object recognition and innovative gripper technology. The use of compact suction cups instead of finger-shaped grippers makes it possible to pick up very small parts quickly and gently. With the help of machine learning, the system is constantly learning and building up an extensive knowledge database. The pick & place process ensures particularly gentle handling, which results in optimum utilization of the filling level. The compact design of the cell makes it easy to transport in an overseas container. WAMAS Piece Picking as part of the WAMAS portfolio offers efficient control of the material flow and smooth integration into existing WMS systems without time-consuming teach-in processes.

SSI Piece Picking not only demonstrates its versatility in e-commerce, but is also used in industry and by third-party logistics providers (3PL). In the healthcare and cosmetics sectors in particular, the solution is characterized by optimal, gentle and error-free picking.
