Delivering another Fine OSB line to China

Chinese engineered wood manufacturer A Beautiful Family Plate Making Co. Ltd. (BFP) has placed an order with Dieffenbacher for a complete Fine OSB production line for its site in Guangxi, China. Assembly of the new line is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023. BFP is expected to produce the first board in the fall of 2023.

The scope of supply includes all trades from machining to raw board transport. It includes the dryer, the screens, the chip preparation, the material recovery, the gluing including glue preparation and metering, the forming station and the forming train, the continuous press “CPS+” as well as the electrical system and the automation. After commissioning, BFP will use the plant to produce up to 500,000 m³ of Fine OSB per year.

“Fine OSB is becoming increasingly popular in China,” said Matthias Rübsam, Area Sales Director at Dieffenbacher. “Thanks to the lower raw material costs, OSB is an economical alternative to plywood for almost every application. Fine OSB also solves the problem of poor coatability due to the uneven board surface of conventional OSB.” To improve the surface texture, Fine OSB uses an OSB middle layer surrounded by particleboard face sheets on top and bottom. Finally, the resulting boards can be coated on both sides with melamine or phenolic paper in a short-cycle press.

“Fine OSB combines the excellent mechanical properties of OSB, such as moisture resistance, robustness, dimensional stability and high screw-holding capacity, with the surface quality of particleboard,” explains Rübsam. “That’s why Fine OSB is ideal for applications in home furnishing and decoration, flooring, custom furniture manufacturing and more. The Chinese authorities are so convinced of the product that they have introduced a national standard for Fine OSB,” he concludes.
